New appointments strengthen our analytical team

Smithers Rapra is delighted to announce three important new appointments: Tom Forsyth in the new position as Business Manager – Chemical Analysis; Tim Hulme as Principal Pharmaceutical Consultant and Michael Creese as Senior Consultant.

Tom Forsyth brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked for over 30 years as a materials scientist specialising in the manufacture of plastics and rubber products, including packaging and dipped rubber goods. Previously he worked as Technical Director of BM Polyco where he was responsible for developing its UKAS accredited chemical, microbiological and physical testing laboratories. Prior to working at BM Polyco (1989-2004), Tom held the role of Technical Manager of the Analytical and Physical Testing Laboratories at the London International Group where he led the laboratories to gain UKAS accreditation. He commenced his career with the Metal Box Company, spending 14 years in its Research & Development Division gaining experience in plastics materials characterisation and supervisory skills. Tom, who has a BSc in Chemistry from Strathclyde University, will be responsible for leading Smithers Rapra’s Chemical Analysis Team.

Tim Hulme joins Smithers Rapra from ConvaTec, where he spent 19 years gaining extensive experience in the analysis of pharmaceutical, wound and skin care products. Most notably he set up and ran the company’s bio-analytical and formulation laboratory, the Skin Care Analytical Group and ran the SEM/EDX analysis service. Tim holds an MSc in Pharmaceutical Analysis and is a Chartered Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Chartered Scientist and a Fellow of the Royal Microscopy Society. As Principal Pharmaceutical Consultant at Smithers Rapra, Tim will further strengthen the scope and range of analytical services to the pharmaceutical industry.

In his role as Senior Consultant, Michael Creese will utilise his process validation, regulatory, extractable and leachable analysis and project management expertise to further enhance Smithers Rapra’s pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical analysis services. He joins the company from Pall Europe Ltd, where he has worked since 2003, immediately following his graduation from the University of Warwick with a BSc in Chemistry. He is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
