Conference to address profitability, sustainability and environmental legality in plastics supply chain
14/12/2009
iSmithers, formerly the Information division within independent testing, research and consulting organisation Smithers Rapra, has launched EnviroPlas, the first international conference of its kind to cover cradle to cradle issues in the non-packaging plastics supply chain. The conference will take place in Brussels on 16-17 March 2010.
The conference has been designed to address the environmental decisions that the non-packaging plastics supply chain can take to increase their environmental integrity; comply with current and pending regulations and crucially, maximise their profits. For many in the plastics sector, environmental sustainability may be part of a wider corporate social responsibility scheme with the primary purpose of increasing customer loyalty and penetrating new markets. However there are also real opportunities for companies to gain substantial cost savings - not to mention environmental integrity - through efficient processing and resource management.
The two day conference boasts a speaking panel that includes Plastics Europe, Vinyl 2010, Renault, AMUT, Air Products, Purac and Areva and has been structured to allow plenty of time for networking and exchange of ideas. Topics for discussion include: Plastics materials sustainability; environmental design, energy efficiency, plastics recycling technology and life cycle assessment.
“With industry’s input, we have been able to structure a conference that addresses the real needs of the plastics and processing industry, looking into the environmental choices available to the industry from a products inception to its disposal” said an iSmithers spokesperson. “Attendees will have a unique opportunity to review recent developments in environmentally appropriate plastics grades, get up to date with current legislation and explore energy saving in plastics processing and the latest thinking in end of plastics product life technology.”
